Privacy policy
Short version: we collect as little as possible, and we never sell personal data.
Last updated: 2026-10-05. Applies to pithybooks.com.
1. Data we do not collect
- No accounts, no logins, no newsletters — so no passwords or contact lists on our side.
- No advertising trackers, no cross-site cookies, no social-media pixels.
- Contact happens by email (see contact page); we keep only the messages you send us, to answer and to handle corrections or disputes.
2. Data stored on your device (not sent to us)
The site remembers a few preferences in your browser's localStorage so pages work the way you left them:
pb-theme— your light / dark / system theme choice.pb-read— reading options (text size, width, font).pb-consent— your cookie-banner choice (accepted / rejected).
Clearing site data in your browser removes all three. Details: cookie policy.
3. Optional analytics
Analytics is off by default. If enabled, it uses a privacy-friendly, cookieless provider (currently none configured) that counts aggregate visits without advertising profiles. It only loads after you click Accept in the cookie banner, and you can withdraw consent anytime via Cookie settings in the footer.
4. Hosting and infrastructure logs
Pages are served as static files (Cloudflare Pages). Like any web host, the infrastructure may process basic technical logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent) for security and delivery. We do not combine these logs with any identity, and we do not operate our own per-visitor tracking database.
5. Third parties you may touch
- Book covers: images load from Open Library (
covers.openlibrary.org). Your browser contacts them directly when a page shows a cover; their privacy policy applies to that request. - Email: if you write to [email protected], your email provider handles delivery; we see whatever you put in the message.
6. Your rights (including EU / UK GDPR)
Because there are no accounts, the only personal data we typically hold is email correspondence. You can request access, correction, or deletion of your messages at [email protected]. EU/UK visitors also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. Legal basis where applicable: legitimate interests in operating a lightweight reading site, and consent for optional analytics.
7. Children
This is a general-audience library of book summaries with no age-gated content and no data collection directed at children. Parents or guardians can contact us about any concern.
8. Changes
If this policy changes materially, the “last updated” date above changes and the new version applies from publication. For questions, email [email protected].
